Lancet Countdown 2019 Canada Launch Event

Join Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change Canadian Policy Brief lead author Dr Courtney Howard, Canadian Medical Association President Dr Sandy Buchman, and Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment – Quebec Committee President Dr Claudel Pétrin-Desrosiers as they reveal top Canadian climate-health challenges and recommendations for a healthy response to climate change.

The Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change is an international research collaboration dedicated to tracking the world’s response to climate change and how it affects global health. Reporting annually in The Lancet, it follows a series of indicators, demonstrating that this transition is possible, that it has already begun, but that more work is needed.

You and your colleagues are invited to attend the launch of the 2019 edition of the Canada-specific policy brief that will focus in on some key indicators that are particularly relevant in the Canadian context:

  • Exposure to wildfires and evacuations in Canada;
  • Health benefits of a rapid transition to zero-emissions vehicles;
  • The carbon footprint of health systems and initiatives in “Do No Harm” healthcare;
  • Canada’s Healthy Response:  2020 Nationally Determined Contributions & 1.5C

The discussion will offer insights into the Canadian indicators in the global context, allowing for health policy-makers, academics and others to learn more about action towards a healthy climate in Canada.  A Q&A session will follow the presentation by Drs. Howard, Buchman, Pétrin-Desrosiers, and others.

A bar service and some hors d’oeuvres will be available.
