2019 Brazil Lancet Countdown Launch Event

On the 18th of November 2019, this event will launch the policy recommendations of the Lancet Countdown Brazil, which analyses data on the impacts of climate change on Brazilians’ health in four areas: vulnerability to mosquito-borne diseases, coal, air pollution and health sector emissions.  In addition to presenting the most recent data, the consequences of delaying mitigation actions and the advantages of an adequate response will be discussed.

This year, under the coordination of authors Mayara Floss and Enrique Barros, a briefing was prepared for Brazilian policy makers, analyzing Lancet Countdown data with a focus on Brazil. The Brazilian recommendations in 2018 addressed three central themes: the impact of heat on health and labor productivity; climate-sensitive infectious diseases, specifically dengue; and land use management and deforestation.
