The Lancet Countdown Is Excited To Welcome New Team Members!

The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change is pleased to introduce our new team members! The new team will work across research, policy and communications to help expand the Lancet Countdown’s research portfolio and increase engagement with global policymakers and the international healthcare community.

The expansion of the Lancet Countdown team comes at a time of global focus on the effects of climate change with the recent declaration of a ‘climate emergency’ by the UK Government and widespread global climate protests. The new team will be pivotal in tracking and sharing evidence of the health impact of climate change and ensuring that health is at the centre of political discussion and decision-making.

Our new team members bring with them a diverse range of experience and expertise and will join Executive Director of the Lancet Countdown, Dr. Nick Watts. Learn more about the backgrounds of our new team members below:

DR. ALICE MCGUSHIN (Programme Manager)

Alice trained as medical doctor in Tasmania and Western Australia before joining the Lancet Countdown. From the very beginning of her medical studies, Alice developed a passion for global health and has been working in the area of climate change and health, alongside her medical training, at the local, national and international level. Alice recently completed an MSc Public Health (Environment and Health) at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has since also worked as a consultant for the World Health Organization climate change team, the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and the World Organization of Family Doctors. Contact Alice here for research related queries.

ANJULI BORGONHA (Communications Manager)

Anjuli is a communications specialist with an MA degree in Communication for Development from Malmö University. Prior to joining the Lancet Countdown she managed the communications work of the London International Development Centre and the Centre for Maternal, Adolescent, Reproductive and Child Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Anjuli has also previously spent two years living in Colombia, working at the British Embassy in Bogotá. She has a particular interest in antibiotic resistance, and wrote her MA thesis on AMR communication campaigns. Contact Anjuli here for media and press related queries.

LAURA DONOVAN (Programme Administrator)

Laura has an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Sussex and a master’s degree in Global Health and Development from University College London. She is passionate about tackling global health issues on a national and international level, and is looking to diversify into the field of climate change and health.  Prior to joining the Lancet Countdown Laura completed a Public Health Fellowship at Southwark Council and is currently working part-time as an Administrator in Global Health Research at King’s College London’s Centre for Global Mental Health. DR. MARINA ROMANELLO (Data Analyst)

Marina is a geneticist and joins the Lancet Countdown from the Francis Crick Institute. She holds a PhD in molecular biology from the University of Cambridge. Marina will start in July 2019.
