This report draws on knowledge developed for the European Climate and Health Observatory. It focuses on the impact high temperatures are having on the population, as well as another emerging threat: the spread of climate-sensitive infectious diseases.

The 2022 Europe report of the Lancet Countdown on health and climate change: towards a climate resilient future

The first Europe Report of the Lancet Countdown monitors the health effects of climate change and the health co-benefits of climate action in Europe. As the world's third largest economy and a major contributor to global cumulative greenhouse gas emissions, Europe is a key stakeholder in the world's response to climate change and has a global responsibility and opportunity to lead the transition to a low-carbon economy and a healthier, more resilient society.

2022 Policy Brief for Europe

Building on previous calls for a healthy, green and just recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, this policy brief focuses on data and policy recommendations in three key areas - sustainable food and diets, ambient air pollution, and greening of the healthcare sector - highlighting areas for action on health and climate change.

Tracking progress on health and climate change in Europe (2021)

To ensure that health and wellbeing are protected in Europe's response to climate change, it is essential to build the capacity to understand, monitor, and quantify health impacts of climate change and the health co-benefits of accelerated action. Responding to this need, the Lancet Countdown in Europe is established as a transdisciplinary research collaboration for monitoring progress on health and climate change in Europe.

This briefing is a collaborative effort of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change, and the European Environment Agency (EEA), highlighting the adverse impacts on health in Europe from climate change, and the need for European countries to adapt and mitigate against this threat.

Against the backdrop of the upcoming COP26 and the COVID-19 recovery, this briefing focuses on data and policy recommendations on three themes featured in the 2021 global Lancet Countdown report, namely heat and health in Europe, urban green space, and energy systems, air pollution and health.
